R! DUB! BACK! LIKE! MAGIC!
Loud cheering erupted from America’s Finest City as our exclamation-pointed friend R Dub! announced his return to the daily radio game as the newly appointed afternoon guy on LMA Rhythmic Oldies XHRM (Magic 92.5)/San Diego. Señor Dub takes over the shift for station vet Xavier The X-Man, who segues to middays as Sherry Knight remains aboard for weekends/fill-in. It’s another chapter in the long and storied history of Dub! and Magic PD Fred Rico, who last worked together at KSJM (Power 97.5)/Tucson in the mid-’90s; when Dub! left KOHT (Hot 98.3)/Tucson in 2007 for the PD gig at KHHT (Hot 92.3)/Los Angeles, Rico replaced him at Hot. “I just e-mailed the folks at Webster’s Dictionary a picture of me in the Magic 92.5 studio to file under ‘dream job’ — that’s exactly what this is,” an exuberant Dub! tells RAMP. “Magic is without a doubt one of my favorite and best-sounding radio stations in the country — and now I get to work there? I still don’t believe it. I’m so thankful to folks like Fred, GM Gregg Wolfson and Group Brand Manager Tracy Johnson for such a great chance.”
Rico also expresses positive emotions about his new hire: “I’m really happy to be getting a person who gets and loves the music,” he tells RAMP. “R Dub! is a great talent, and I look forward to him displaying it on our airwaves. Xavier the X-Man is a big-league personality, and we’ll see him use his charm to amuse the midday audience. Got some superstar players on XHRM!” Rico says. “I also look forward to helping Dub! do some taco inspecting in San Diego, and Xavier is looking forward to having another low-rider lover on staff.” If you’re confused by the taco thing, Dub! has a side venture where he checks out various local taco purveyors, which he chronicles online at www.thetacoreview.com — that’s The Taco Review and not the Scientologyesque-sounding Theta Core View, as some moron once asked.
