What radio VO work have you done in the past? For each of the stations I have worked for and also when I hit the road for radio promo tours for my music.
What are you up to presently? I am currently an On Air Personality at Power 106 FM. You can hear me Monday-Saturday from 3-7 PM. I also make up 1/3 of The Americanos to produce music.
What do you love about your job? Everything, where do I start? In a nut shell, I am very blessed to be able to use my voice to support my family. Very fulfilling 🙂
How did you get started as a VO actor? What was your first gig? I was introduced to radio in Dallas as a DJ on a Saturday night mix show at the local radio station, KNON. That led to a gig at the big Spanish station in Dallas at the time followed by the evening slot at KKDA, Dallas’s biggest hip hop radio station. Years later, I would move to LA as Power 106 offered me the opportunity of a lifetime. For whatever reason, they still haven’t fired me 🙂
Who are your VO idols/mentors? Who influenced your work as a VO artist? DJ idols: Jam Master Jay, Jazzy Jeff, and always was a fan of the late Eazy-E’s voice.
What is your dream gig? I’m living my dream gig now at Power 106 in Los Angeles.
Can you offer any advice for newbies trying to make it in the voice-over industry? Basically, “if you wanna be a football player, sleep on the football field.” That’s the best advice I can offer for people pursuing anything in life.
If you weren’t doing voiceover, what else do you think you’d be doing for a career? No idea, couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
How do you schedule/prioritize your work? The most urgent things are top priority for me. Urgency can be determined by many things, so I simply deliver based on circumstance.
How do you market your services to potential clients? Through Benztown! And of course networking at the hottest functions in LA and beyond.
Which production system do you use and why? Pro Tools, convenience makes for creativity.
What gear do you use? Microphone and booth.
How has new technology changed the way you work? It’s allowed for recording on the road when normally I would have to find an actual studio. I cannot record using an app on my phone and get basically the same sound quality as if I were in an actual studio.
What did it feel like the first time you heard your voice on the radio/television? To this day, it still amazes me when I hear myself on the radio, on a song, or on TV. That will never get old to me.
“Get Buck In Here” is your song!!!?!?! That song was an anthem. How was it making that track and/or music video with Diddy, Akon, Ludacris, and Lil Jon? That video was definitely an amazing experience and very challenging as we shot in 3 separate cities over a course of a month. We shot Diddy’s part in Miami, we shot Luda’s part in Atlanta, and came home to LA to finish up with Akon and Lil Jon. Fun fact: The first time Ciroc was seen in a video was in “Get Buck.”
Do you ever get star struck and if so by who? Not so much, but if I had to name one person who I would get star struck over it would be Will Smith.
What’s your personal goal in entering the voiceover game? To showcase my voice on as many radio stations as possible in hopes that it enhances the already amazing sound of that particular station.
If you could go back to any decade and hang out which one would you go back to and why? Most definitely the 80s. I came up in that decade but was too young too appreciate it. Definitely wish I could go back.
If you could invite one person over for dinner, living or dead, who would it be and why? Dr. Dre!
