Jan Brückner’s Horror Pitch Shift Show Reloaded – 2015 Edition

We love Halloween! A time you can freak out with your Imaging in a pretty bloody and scary way. And as the time progresses, we still do things we love and hopefully getting better in doing so. So Jan still loves pitching around his VO, to create creeeepy VO effects and wants to share his next level version of ‘Horror Pitch Shifting Show’!

1.
Import the VO file to one of your VO tracks as usual and arrange it.

2. Duplicate the track with events and keep your original processing and routing.

3. Open a Pitch Shift plugin and use it on the duplicated file.. Jan uses Pitch ‘n Time Pro, but there are also alternatives like Sound Shifter Graphic. Just make sure that your plugin is able to change the pitch over time. Because this is where the magic happens right now: Change the mode of the Pitch algorithm to pitch over time and let your creativity flow – play around with the pitch curve. Render it.

4. Now add some Plugins to the duplicated track:

Hipass Filter: to cut low frequencies. We just want to keep the low information of the original file. The duplicate is just an addition.

Bitcrush: To add that nasty monster sound choose a bit crushing plugin. Jan chose Sonalksis’ Digital Grimebox.

Screenshot - Doubler

“Harmonizing”: Add several voicings. Doubler4 is a good tool for this:  Activate all 4 voices and spread them by assigning a separate pan value for each voice. Pull up each gain to 0db.

5. Might be, that you have to turn down the channel fader, if the signal is too loud.

6. Listen and be afraid 🙂
This is what the effect sounds like in context.

Of course you can continue this story and pitch also the original file and things like these. The combinations are limitless, it’s up to you! What is your favorite Halloween Imaging Trick? Let me know!

Spooky Halloween!
