Behind the Mic: Jessica Trinidad
Hi, I’m Jessica, also known as JessiCat. I’m a bilingual voice actor with over 15 years of experience working on many campaigns, local, national, and international, in both English and Spanish. I specialize in neutral Latin American Spanish, Mexican Spanish, English with a hint of Hispanic, or English with a Latin accent. I bring the little voices in your head to life.
What radio VO work have you done in the past (stations/markets)?
I’ve voiced stations across Latin America and throughout the Midwest. Most of my work is in Spanish or English with a Latin flavor, which really resonates with bilingual and bicultural audiences.
What are you up to presently (freelance/on-staff at a station)?
Right now, I’m focused on being present, learning, growing, and loving the work I get to do in this genre. I’m
a lifelong student, always sharpening my craft and enjoying the ride.

What do you love about your job?
I love that I get to step into a new character every day, sometimes multiple times a day, and still make a positive impact just by using my voice.
How did you get started as a VO actor?
Years ago, I left my job in HR to follow my passion and build a career using my voice and creative talent. Best decision I ever made!
What was your first gig? Any memorable ones since then?
My first gig was narrating a training module for a nursing home. It paid me 20 bucks, and I still have the first dollar I ever made. Since then, I’ve voiced so many memorable projects I’ve lost count. Each one is memorable to me. I love what I do.
Who are your VO idols/mentors?
My idols are Joan Baker and Silvia Villagran, the OGs. I love them. Both have offered mentorship along the way, and so have many of my colleagues in this amazing community. Too many to count.
If you weren’t doing voiceover, what else do you think you’d be doing for a career?
Probably talking somewhere.
What did it feel like the first time you heard your voice on the radio/television?
It was a pinch-me moment. Pure bliss.
What gear do you use on the road? In your studio?
For my mobile setup, the good old comforter in the hotel room plus my 416 and Apollo Twin are my go-to guys. They come through every time.

Have you ever had a voice coach? Would you recommend it?
I’ve had several coaches throughout my career, both for technique and business. Many of them are still friends I stay in touch with. I highly recommend coaching not just for voiceover but for anything you’re trying to pursue. It’s a powerful way to align with someone who’s already mastered the craft. I’m a firm believer in coaching.
How do you schedule/prioritize your work? How much time do you spend auditioning for new work?
I’m fully focused on my craft every day and I treat my clients as a top priority. Of course, I take care of myself first because without that I couldn’t show up for them. But when they need me, I’m there ready to deliver.
If you could go back in time and hang out in any decade, which one would you go back to and why?
Something about the Victorian era speaks to me. The jewelry, the clothing, the overall vibe, I don’t know what it is, but it just feels like home.
Favorite 2 pizza toppings?
I am Team Tacos.
If you could invite one person to dinner, living or dead, who would it be?
Selena!
