Fiver Friday #548: Dolly, Lucid Plugin, Saturn, & More!

Boom! Minimal Audio just dropped Lucid, a granular effect plugin that rebuilds whatever you feed it grain by grain. Feed it a vocal, a pad, a pluck, and it turns it into shimmering textures that stay locked to your key and your grid. Eight swappable effects built in, over 350 presets, and it syncs to transients so you can scrub through a loop without losing the beat. I keep thinking about what this could do for transitions and risers on imaging beds. Intro price is $79 through September 30, then it jumps to $129. I need to check this out in detail. 2. Inspiration

Barrett Media ran a piece this week called “WWDD: What Would Dolly Do Radio Industry Leadership.” Dolly’s songs jumped 2,000 percent in airplay after she passed, and hundreds of stations synced up Thursday morning to play “I Will Always Love You” at the same moment. But the part that got me was the leadership lesson buried in there. When the East Tennessee wildfires hit in 2016, Dolly set up a fund and gave families $1,000 a month. Zero red tape. No committee, no paperwork, just help. That is the whole business right there. Cut the bureaucracy and act fast.

Max McNown’s “Famous to You” has been on repeat for me. The chorus says it straight: “Someday I wanna be a household name, as long as it’s the one you take.” That’s a hell of a line for a song about ambition.

4. Web/Social/Whatever

Hubble just tracked a brand new decagon forming around Saturn’s south pole. Ten sides, wrapping the whole pole, and it only started showing up in the last few years. Saturn has had a hexagon parked on its north pole for over 40 years and nobody realized the south pole was cooking up its own shape. Wild that we are still finding new things on a planet we have been staring at for decades.
