A well done revival or just trying to copy Kraftwerk?…

From World War to modern Pop music, this device has gone a long way. Above you can see one of the early vocoders, used for speech coding in telecommunications.

It took time until the 70s, until Kraftwerk released with Autobahn one of the first successful Pop/Rock albums featuring vocoder sounds. Soon came ELO, Jean Michel Jarre and Styx.

Long time, you were forced to use hardware for that effect, since a few years, you can get your own vocoder sound with plugins.

As music has gotten more electronic  these days, the vocoder sound came back big time.

We’re doing our stuff with NI’s Razor, but how about you?

Do you use plugINs? What about hardware?

Tell us your favorite.
